The
Catalina 30 is a twenty-nine-foot 11-inch
long fiberglass sailboat produced by the Catalina Yachts
Company in California. It is a sloop-rigged boat with a fixed
lead keel. The keel on this boat is a 4' 4" shoal keel designed
for areas with low water depth and or sand bars.

Offering
more space than a typical 30' boat, this traditionally styled
Catalina 30 is extremely popular with cruisers
because of its wide and deep hull which creates exceptional
volume above and below decks. There are seven full adult berths
according to the owners manual -- the present owner says six
are very comfortable. The cabin has 6' 4" headroom and large
storage areas under the settees, in the three cockpit lockers,
and in the galley. There are drawers and a locker system opposite
the head. Lots and lots of storage. :)
With
so much room and so much stability under sail,
it's no wonder that in 2001 the Catalina 30 was
inducted to the American Sailboat Hall of Fame
for being the largest and longest continuous production keel
boat in the world, with over 6,500 hulls produced.
There
is a large
anchor locker in the fore peak. With a huge companionway hatch
and large forward hatch, the boat is well ventilated and bright
inside. With plenty of seating in the cabin's living area,
a kitchen that has everything you could want, and a bathroom
complete with shower, this sailboat will not disappoint
you.

The
first thing you will notice when approaching this yacht is
the size. First of all this yacht is 30 feet
long - not small by boat standards - and has plenty of room
for your next outing.
As
you board, you step onto the main deck (standard
large cockpit) with U seating and three storage cubbies under
the seats. At the back of the boat there is a dive ladder
to assist you when climbing out of the water and back onto
the boat after a long day of swimming or snorkeling. Catalina
is known for its large cockpit area (seats captain, plus six
comfortably).
Moving
towards the front of the boat you step down
three steps and enter the main cabin in the kitchen (galley)
area. The galley has a propane stove, microwave, refrigerator
and a sink (double sink) perfect for cooking meals on the
high seas. Walking through the main cabin (salon) area you
enter the dining seating area with an L-shaped couch for your
dining pleasure and a three-seater couch on the other side
of the seating area. Dining table seats four, plus 3 on the
seating couch.
Walk
through the dining seating area and look left,
and you will see the bathroom (head), complete with shower
- and all sea-faring folk know what a luxury a hot shower
is to a sailor!
Just
past the bathroom you will find yourself in
the main sleeping area with V berth shaped bed. This bed is
reasonably sized and will sleep two adults comfortably.
As
you walk back through the cabin you may notice
the storage under the main deck. It is perfect for holding
anything you will need on your sailing trip, or you could
use this room as a guest room for a couple more people you
might bring along on your trip.

Condition
Notes:
This
1984 Catalina 30 foot Yacht
as shown in this ad has not been professionally cleaned
-- new owners generally prefer to personally have
items professionally cleaned upon their purchase.
This boat has been fresh water moored.
The
interior: Please see interior on the
pictures and video provided. Shows usual wear -- (see
photos and video). A couple of light covers (plastic)
are cracked (and a few light bulbs may be burned out),
and could be replaced. But they are functional as
they. Some of the upholstery needs to be redone. Present
owner simply placed a cover over settee cushions --
but the cushions provide excellent comfort as they
are.
The
exterior: Please see the numerous pictures
provided and place your bid on pictures provided.
The last bottom job was done in 2004 to the owners
knowledge. A full set of cockpit cushions are fairly
new (they do not need to be recovered). The helm is
a stainless wheel, with large compass -- the make
is Edson. The standing rigging is excellent. The running
rigging has been replaced as needed - and none needs
to be presently replaced. The polishing of the hull
is excellent - never been hard aground.
The
exterior bright work has been treated with teak oil,
and will require future maintenance. The mast is aluminum.
The steaming light and mooring light works. The main
sail is brand new, less than a year old (fully battened),
and powers the boat extremely well. The jib sail is
110 working jib, with roller furling. This boat is
ready for blue water sailing.
The
mechanical: This
boat is driven by the Kubota 28 HP diesel motor. Extremely
economical on fuel. The gas tank has been cleaned
recently, and the fuel system flushed out. The owner
believes the fuel capacity is about 15 gallons. The
motor was rebuilt in 2002, has less than 500 hours
on it. The transmission was brand new (replaced) at
the same time in 2002.
The
steering and rudder has been well maintained and shows
no major signs of wear. The boat has an emergency
tiller handle. Two fire extinguishers are below. Some
newer life vests are included. The through hull connections
appear to be in top shape.
Included
is a navigation table, wind speed sensor, good radio
with weather channel option, four batteries (about
1 year old). The bilge is dry and keel hardware is
shiny. (has an automatic bilge pump and a manual backup
pump). It has two Lewmar self-tailing two speed winches.
Electronics:
A picture
in this ad shows three items together (Humminging
Bird Navigational System, Auto Help 3000). These items
are being included with this boat, but the present
owner never used them, and does not know if they work
- but are being included in case the next owner wants
to try them to see. The mounting brackets are in place.
The transducer just went out on the depth finder.
With today's technology, you can get a much improved
GPS and depth system at a lower cost.
The cockpit has tachometer, fuel gauge, volt meter
and water temperature gauge (fresh water cooled -
double jacket), and hour meter, keyed starter switch
and glow plug button, kill switch. There is also an
internal buzzer on the key switch to remind you to
turn the key off. :)
There
are two solar charging panels for battery charging
when the boat is at anchor.
