WOW -- this is a collectable you can make into a big show winner!
This is a 1962 original Ford Galaxie 500XL we are helping the owner sell. The last ad stated that this rare find was 90%+ original. That was incorrect.
The owner we are selling this for had the some performance upgrades done under the hood (like the manifold and 4bb carb, as the original is a 2bb) - and when he had those performance upgrades done, he kept the original parts, including the original steel wheels. So, the 1962 Galaxie shown in this ad -- if the few original parts performance that were upgraded were replaced back with the the original parts we have that are included with this auction, this 1962 Galaxie would be indeed as close as you can get to 100% original.
This 1962 Galaxie model was similar to the 1961 Galaxie, introduced in late 1961, and sported a new trim package, ornamental design and a distinctive new grill. The fender ornaments are shiny chrome exclusive to this year only - in great shape they are.
This Galaxie 500 XL has a four speed manual transmission, and if you look in the photo gallery you can see the console, shifter itself, interior and exterior and included parts. This is a 1962 Galaxie that will make you very happy. If you look at the upholstery up close, it was redone a long time ago to match the original, and the person who did the paint was truly a master at matching it so close to the original. It is believed this vehicle is 100% original.

If you are looking for a collectable 60's Ford Galaxie that has a lot of promise to be all the way back to original, this vehicle would be ideal for that. This is a great looking 46 year old -- it appears to have not not seen a hard life, as most of the car is believed to be original. And that is easy to see that looking around the vehicle. When the upholstery was redone, we understand it has original cushions.

The aggressive front end was easily distinguished amongst 60's Ford. Lots of chrome. You didn't miss one coming towards you. The chrome wheels top off the heavy chrome.

The days in early 60s of awesome power were now in full swing as a result of these new Galaxies. In addition to the incredible engine options there were 47 different interiors. Yes, 47 different color keyed interior trims and 13 Diamond Lustre Enamel exterior paint colors. Also offered, were attractive two-tone paint schemes. This Galaxie is a solid color. Selection was main focus in the 60's. Lots of choice.
There were almost 50 different interiors ...

You will be proud driving and showing this Galaxie. The pictures on this vehicle do not do it justice as to how high quality the paint is -- and how clean it is overall. Most of what is needed to be done is cosmetic. See conditions section farther down in ad.
Ford is famous for this 'built-for-people' comfort. Convenience is a Ford strong point, too. Galaxie's "Vacation Volume" trunk is a prime example. There is 28 cubic feet of space, with the widest opening (over 5 feet) in Galaxie's field! It's flat, level space and lined, of course, to protect your luggage. This trunk is in exceptional condition. Solid.
You can see a strong resemblance to the Thunderbird in the rear end design. The chrome, interior and paint on this 1962 Galaxie 500XL is in excellent condition overall.
Notice how the extra-long and wide-opening doors- they let you step in easily and gracefully. Seats are comfortably high, wide, and deep ... soft as your sofa ... yet with firm support for your back and shoulders. Notice, too, how much room there is for heads, shoulders, hips, and legs ... even with six persons in the car.
Most of Ford's factory advertising in the 60's, love was the theme. It's so easy to do :)
Galaxie steering (with easy-working 30 to 1 ratio) is the next best thing to power steering. Famous Ford safety features ride with you, of course. Slide in under the wheel of the brilliant new Galaxie 500 Town Sedan by Ford. Galaxie says quality ... and says it in a whisper.
This Galaxie comes with the 406 High Performance engine, topped off with a 2-barrel carburetor and an oval air cleaner. The original 2bb carb and manifold= which both are included with this auction -- the present owner upgraded to a 4bb with a different manifold.
Three speed manual was an option. This four speed manual shifter like the one shown in the photos on the floor was standard equipment on 406 engine.This shows the original factory mounted door plate, which is in excellent condition as you can see. We have some documentation that shows what the codes mean -- the docs will come with the vehicle.
These new Galaxies were very luxurious with this introduction of the plush '500XL' hardtop. The bucket seat interiors are luxurious with attractive chrome seat strapping and matching Mylar door panels. This Galaxie has been upgraded a top quality sound system in it. A Sony 45 Watt X 4 CDR, RW - it is a model CDX L300.The original radio is also in dash.
Brakes are 'tailored to weight' and safety according to Ford. Thus wagons, heavier than sedans, have bigger brakes. In addition, Galaxie's Wide-Contoured frame better protects all passengers with double-channel girders of steel
This model also introduced the first floor console ever offered. In exceptional condition.

Condition Notes:
Interior: Make sure you see the additional hundred plus photos in the photo gallery that you can access from several links in this ad. As you can see for the pictures, the upholstery (seats, carpet, headliner are in exceptional condition. The dash top is no cracks noted, and the dashboard surface itself is really clean and all the components are in the dash. The glove box opens and closes fine -- the owner we are selling it for said he took out the actual inside part of the glove box as it has deteriorated.
The clock looks in great shape - but does not work, And the add on gauges, the voltmeter does not work, but the oil pressure gauge works. The door panels are primarily the only area in the interior that need attention (see photos). But if you could see the interior it is in overall excellent condition. This has the potential to be a show vehicle with only a couple things done (like the door panels).
The door inside lights light up -- they are two different colors (by factory design). They look great. The ashtray looks like it might have been used a long long time ago. Other than the door panels, we were impressed as to the excellent condition of the interior.
Exterior: The exterior paint is drop dead gorgeous -- it alone will impress you. The color is rick and the paint has high gloss. It is very very close to the original color of the vehicle, as you can look in the trunk deep down in the fender wells and see the original color - and there is only the slightest difference. This car is solid color, and in the exterior too, we were impressed with the condition of the exterior - really clean as you can see in the photos.
Mechanically: This Galaxies rides and drive great, the AC blows cold. The owner told us that over time there is the slightest occasional oil drop drip. We surmise it could be coming from the oil pan gasket. We heard a slight belt squeak, which we think is just from not being used as it goes away once running a bit. The mileage is said to be original, and from looking at this vehicle it is highly likely indeed it is original mileage.
